This issue of absent magazine was hand-coded in HTML5 and CSS3 by Irwin Chen in early fall of 2009. We wanted to see how the new @font-face specification would work and if we could design this issue using only freely available fonts. (If you're looking at this on an older browser, chances are you won't see the wonderful fonts we're using.) We decided to use the beautiful Vollkorn, designed by Friedrich Althausen, for the text face, and Fontin, from Jos Buivenga's exljbris Font Foundry, for display. For titling we used Titillium, a cooperative student-designed open source font from Accademia di Belle Arti di Urbino (Urbino Accademy of Fine Arts).
