Teaching Tools: The Olden Days

  1. Open your hymnals
  2. to a cracked and lacquered
  3. scene of
  4. country commerce.
  5. See the haymow scuttle.
  6. See the mules in tow.
  7. See the scythe
  8. cut
  9. the wheat grass back.
  10. See the money change hands, oh—
  11. chapter and verse.
  12. See the women
  13. in shawls,
  14. saw,
  15. shovels
  16. on shoulders of
  17. pall-
  18. bearers,
  19. share-
  20. holders,
  21. bury their tithe
  22. beneath a pale blue canopy,
  23. then hoe in the dirt,
  24. Here on Earth.
